Ask a Funeral Director: Discuss Funeral Arrangements

Lucy Porter is a Funeral Director from H. Porter  & Sons who have been serving Stourbridge and the surrounding areas for more than 175 years.

Lucy will be discussing what is happening during the Covid pandemic regarding funerals, what we can and can’t do now. This session will be informative and helpful for not only families in our community but also carers in nursing and care homes. This session will be followed by a question and answer session after the presentation.

Ask a Solicitor: Power of attorney and probate

This session will be run by Jenny Styler, ex-solicitor who will be discussing power of attorney and probate. This will be followed by a question and answer session. Usually Jenny has done these session at the Hospice in the Day Unit and for our carers group as well as our volunteers.  Jenny will also individually assist people at the Hospice who need her help.

Ask a Social Worker: Emotions during Covid pandemic and focus on post-traumatic stress disorder

This session will be a narrative approach from a qualified Palliative Care Social Worker discussing emotions we may feel throughout the Covid pandemic and a focus on post-traumatic stress disorder. Esther aims to tell her story in this session and explain what has helped her from both a personal and professional perspective.

This free Zoom session will take place on Tuesday 30th March at 12:30pm GMT.

Ask a Pharmacist: The Covid pandemic from a medical perspective

Julie McCarthy, specialist palliative care pharmacist prescriber at Mary Stevens Hospice will be discussing the Covid pandemic from a medical perspective. This session is for anybody that is interested in a medical perspective of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The presentation will then be followed by a question and answer session.

Ask a Social Worker: Secondary trauma for frontline workers –  A narrative perspective

Just ask a social worker about secondary trauma, a narrative approach for professionals working in the caring profession. How do I deal with the Covid pandemic, with loss and bereavement. We will be discussing how you can make sure that you are taking care of yourself through various forms of self care.  Working long hours can be difficult when you are working from home without your usual team around you and dealing with difficult incidents can seem even more difficult, therefore we will explore ways in which you can make sure you are looking after yourself. This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Ask an Admiral Nurse: Dementia care during the pandemic 

Carol Devaney, Admiral Nurse will be joining us to talk about dementia care during the pandemic and what services are available in the Borough. Carol will also explain what the Admiral Nurse service is and and the national helpline. This is for families, patients and carers who need support, awareness and knowledge about dementia and the pandemic.

Ask a Bereavement co-ordinator: How do I deal with the Covid pandemic, with loss and bereavement

Sarah Doyle will be discussing the work of the Hospice Bereavement Service’ and the support we offer, an update on developments and encompass legacy as one aspect of our work. This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
