Practical support to make life feel more manageable

When someone is unwell, it’s often the smallest, everyday worries that weigh the most. Our Social Care team are here to lift some of that weight, giving you and those who matter most the space to focus on what is most important.

Support when life feels overwhelming

Life-limiting illness does not only affect the body. It touches every part of life - those important to you, finances, relationships and wellbeing. At The Mary Stevens Hospice, our Social Care team are here to stand beside people through those challenges, providing the guidance and reassurance that helps restore a sense of stability and peace.

Do you have a question?

If you’re unsure what to expect from our Social Care team, please know that we are here to listen, to advise, and to walk with you through each step.

What to expect from our Social Care team

Behind every practical concern is a person who deserves to feel safe, supported and respected. Our Social Care team ensure that no one carries these worries alone, helping you find strength, stability and peace of mind.

Support that lightens the load for carers

Caring for someone you love can bring both meaning and strain. Our carer support groups offer a safe and understanding space to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and find comfort in others who truly understand.

Providing manageable help and advice

Our hospice social worker offers tailored support and assessments, guiding people through complex areas such as benefits, financial help, care planning, and accessing community resources - we’re here to make systems feel manageable.

We are advocates for you and those important to you

As the hospice’s safeguarding lead, our social worker ensures that every person is safe, respected, and supported. This role goes beyond protecting against risk - it is about being a voice for those who need it, making sure their rights are upheld and their wishes honoured.

Supporting the next generation

Our Social Care team is not only here for today’s patients and carers - they are also helping to shape the future of hospice care, offering placements, teaching and supervision to social care students. As experienced practitioners, our social workers act as educators and mentors, offering placements, supervision and teaching to students preparing to enter the profession.

By opening up the world of hospice care to those in training, we give them the chance to see the realities of supporting people through some of life’s most challenging moments. They learn that social work is not just about processes or paperwork, but about compassion, advocacy and the courage to stand alongside people when they need it most.
