Spiritual Care

Here for every faith and those with none

At The Mary Stevens Hospice, Spiritual Care is not one thing; it is many. Whatever gives a person peace or meaning, we are here to honour it - making space for comfort and reflection in life’s important moments.

Led by people who listen and care

Our Spiritual Care team is supported by volunteers and are here to listen and honour what matters most. For some, that may be prayer or ritual; for others, music, nature or stillness.

We help create meaningful ceremonies and blessings, from weddings to intimate moments of reflection and celebration. Our two Peace Rooms provide calm, welcoming spaces for people of all faiths or none - places to pause, light a candle, or simply sit in quiet peace.

Always available, always compassionate

Spiritual support is always here when it’s needed most. Our team is available at any time, offering quiet presence, listening ears, and compassionate guidance. Whether someone finds comfort in prayer, rituals, or simply in silence, we make space for what matters most to them.

When specific faith traditions are important, we can also call upon local faith leaders to provide the support that feels right. However it is experienced, our focus is the same - creating moments of peace, dignity and meaning in the midst of challenging times.

Frequently asked questions

We understand that Spiritual Care may feel new or unfamiliar. Here are answers to our most common questions.

Still have a question?

Do I need to have a faith to access spiritual care?

No, Spiritual Care is for everyone, regardless of faith, culture, or beliefs. Many people who do not identify with a religion still find comfort in reflection, creativity, or being listened to.

Who provides spiritual care at the hospice?

Our Spiritual Care Lead and trained volunteers offer compassionate support. We also work closely with local faith leaders when specific religious guidance or practices are requested.

Does spiritual care continue after someone has died?

Yes, our hospice team offers ongoing support for families and friends, including helping with funerals, remembrance, and grief support in the days and weeks that follow. This includes our events such as 'Light up a Life' and 'Picnic to Remember'.

Can the hospice help with ceremonies or special occasions?

Yes, our team can arrange personalised blessings, ceremonies, and services - from weddings to intimate moments of remembrance - always shaped around your wishes.
