Advancing inclusive care through research

Research plays a vital role in achieving this goal, and we are a research-active organisation. Our equity-informed research, through the No Barriers Here programme, has welcomed collaborations and partnerships with external researchers and organisations at both national and international levels, helping to advance inclusive and innovative approaches to care.

Research that makes a difference

Every piece of research we undertake begins with one simple question - how can care be better for everyone? From supporting people with learning disabilities to improving experiences for LGBTQ+ communities and those living with rare dementias, our research seeks to understand and remove barriers to compassionate care.

Working alongside partners such as University College London, Marie Curie UK, and Fanshawe University in Canada, we’re proud to contribute to studies that influence national policy and empower professionals around the world to deliver more inclusive palliative care.

Turning insight into impact

Our research isn’t about data alone; it’s about people. Every study, partnership and workshop helps us understand more about what matters most at the end of life. Through collaboration and curiosity, we’re shaping a future where hospice care reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and ensures that everyone receives the support they deserve.

National and international impact

Our No Barriers Here methodology is recognised as a leading framework for inclusive research in palliative care. From Canada to the UK, our training and research have informed new ways of thinking about choice, identity and access to care - ensuring every voice is heard in end-of-life conversations.

Collaboration and partnership

We believe research is most powerful when done together. That’s why we partner with communities and organisations including Marie Curie UK,  Kingston University and University College London on studies that shape real-world practice.

Education and learning

Through our facilitator training and workshops, we have equipped over 500 professionals to deliver No Barriers Here workshops within their own communities, helping to embed inclusive practice across healthcare and hospice settings.

Shaping the future of care

Our ongoing research and projects explore how hospices can respond to community needs. By listening, learning and sharing, we’re helping to shape the next generation of palliative and end-of-life care.
