No Barriers Here

Changing the way we talk about death, dying and care for the future

The Mary Stevens Hospice is proud to lead No Barriers Here - an award-winning, international programme transforming how people explore death, dying and future care. Rooted in creativity, inclusion and equity, it ensures that every voice is heard, especially those who are too often left out of these vital conversations.

Opening up conversations that matter

Built on community engagement, co-production and arts-based methods, No Barriers Here creates safer spaces where people can share experiences and explore their choices for future care and what matters most to them. It brings together patients, professionals and communities and is grounded in equity-focused research. No Barriers Here places those most often excluded from traditional healthcare planning at the centre of it.

What does the programme include?

The No Barriers Here programme brings together education, arts-based methods and research to support how we think about future care. It continues to grow in reach and impact across the UK and internationally, embedding equality and inclusion into palliative and end-of-life care practice.

Education and training

Our facilitator training equips professionals and organisations to deliver No Barriers Here workshops within their own communities. This ensures that the approach can be adapted and sustained, helping more people to have the conversations that shape the care they want and deserve.

Creative tools

Through arts-based methods, participants, participants are supported to explore their wishes, fears and choices in ways that are more accessible and inclusive. These methods support richer conversations that traditional approaches often cannot reach, enabling people a way to be seen and understood.

Research and impact

Recognised nationally and internationally, No Barriers Here has shaped healthcare policy and informed best practice. It continues to lead innovative research into equity, diversity and inclusion in palliative care, working in partnership with universities, charities and communities around the world.
