Susy Wall & The Mary Stevens Hospice

One Day in December is a gentle and reflective song created especially for The Mary Stevens Hospice by local singer-songwriter Susy Wall.

At The Mary Stevens Hospice, we understand that everyone experiences grief differently, and there is no right or wrong way to approach this time of year.

The song One Day in December was written to reflect these feelings honestly while gently offering hope that future Christmases can feel lighter. Its message is that grief does not diminish love, and that taking time to process and honour loss is valid and supported.

If this season feels especially difficult, we offer bereavement and family support for those navigating grief. You can access one-to-one support, counselling, and group sessions, as well as guidance for families and carers. You can visit our hospice website for more information, call our team on 01384 445423, or email pafss@marystevenshospice.co.uk.

We would like to thank Susy Wall, for not only for writing One Day in December but for bringing her unmistakable creative voice and emotional depth to the project. Susy’s songwriting is renowned for its warmth and sincerity, and this piece is no exception. Her ability to craft melodies that resonate has shaped One Day in December into something truly special. Susy’s dedication to her craft has been at the heart of this release, and we are incredibly grateful for the artistry she continues to share.

We also want to thank Pete Harvey, who previously performed on Susy’s debut album. His contribution once again proved transformative, elevating the piece to exactly where it needed to be. Susy was thrilled to have him involved, describing him as not only an extraordinary musician but also a genuinely lovely human being. A big thank you also goes out to Mark Freegard, who the track was mastered by and whose work was fundamental in shaping it into the professional, polished piece Susy felt confident sharing. Mark, who also mastered her second album, brought his exceptional ear and extensive experience to the project. Having a fresh perspective during the production process was invaluable, and Susy considers herself fortunate to have him on board. With a career that includes working with artists such as Del Amitri and Marillion, his involvement added a further layer of distinction to the release.

We finally wanted to thank everyone who has listened, shared, or downloaded the song this season. Your support has helped us reach more people during what a particularly difficult time of year can be. The song is still available to listen to, download, and share, with every download contributing to the work of The Mary Stevens Hospice.
