Yorkshire Bank Financial announce Chosen Charity
Yorkshire Bank's Birmingham Financial Solutions Centre have adopted Mary Stevens Hospice as their charity of the year for 2010.Fundraising staff at the Hospice are delighted and very much look forward to developing the partnership over the coming months. Fundraising events include a World Cup fiesta on June 23, when England play, a top notch Fashion Show and client networking events at their central Birmingham office suite.
Six hardy Birmingham bankers put their best feet forward to mark the start of Yorkshire Bank’s link-up with Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.
Ashley Cooper, Richard Manning, Peter Horsley, Mahmood Sharif, Steve Lewkowicz and Ian Markham, who all work at Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre in Temple Row in the city centre, completed the Three Peaks Challenge early June.
The marathon trek represents the first of a series of fundraising events as part of the bank’s Help the Hospices Appeal, which nationally has raised over £1m within six months.
Ashley, who lives two miles away from the hospice in Hagley Road, and his fellow walkers climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike within 24 hours assisted by support crew and colleagues Andy Bartle, Joanne Lane and Caroline Dredge.
Ashley said: 'We have never done anything like this before particularly in 24 hours. I was a little bit apprehensive but looked forward to it.
Instead of taking the lift, I climbed the 12 flights of stairs at the bank every morning which is 256 steps in preparation for the challenge".
'People in the office have friends who have been cared for at Mary Stevens Hospice and we are aiming to raise as much money as we can since they are our new charity partner. We are hoping to raise about £3,000 in the Three Peaks Challenge.'
WALL JAMES CHAPPELL OFFER SUPPORT
Stourbridge Solicitors, Wall James Chappell have pledged their ongoing support to raising funds for Mary Stevens Hospice during 2010 and beyond. The team have just pledged to make a donation for sponsorship of the Tree of Light service in December.Various other fundraising initiatives have already been put in place with support for the Summer Fete, organising their own inaugural charity Golf Day in September and selling soft toys and cards at Christmas. Local schools have also been approached to design a Christmas Card which the company can send to their clients.

We hope to make a considerable difference in forthcoming years with our support for patient care and are pleased to be associated with all at the Hospice".

Ashwood Nurseries, Nr Stourbridge
We are delighted to announce that Ashwood Nuseries owned and developed by John Massey for the last 42 years, has chosen The Mary Stevens Hospice as its Charity of the Year.'John's Garden' which lies behind Ashwood Nurseries is a wonderful three acre garden created by John Massey and his gardening team and he hosts Open Days during the year which will help to raise funds for the Hospice.

A full diary of fundraising events have been taking place during the past few months, attended by staff at Higgs & Sons and their clients. Highlights have been the annual football tournament at Sixes, kicked off by Steve Bull, a pool tournament, two quizzes and a Wii party at David Lloyd Leisure Club.
Funds have also been raised at dress down days and a Halloween homebaked cake sale, ably made by the Trainees at the firm.
To date the amazing sum of over £6,000 has been raised.

Booker Cash and Carry adopt Mary Stevens Hospice
Kind hearted staff at Booker Cash and Carry, Pensnett Trading Estate, Kingswinford, have voted to support Mary Stevens Hospice as their chosen charity for the coming year.Various fundraising initiatives are being planned by Management and staff to raise much needed funds. Staff organised a special Halloween event for their customers on Friday, 30 October from 9.00am until 4.00pm. Staff dressed up in their scariest costumes and be tea and cakes were on offer for a small donation to the Hospice, raising £290.00
Janet Jones, Fundraising Development Manager at the Hospice said, "We are thrilled that Bookers have decided to support us. They have been very generous in past years donating goods for our Summer and Christmas fayres for which we thank them. I am sure the staff will have a lot of fun raising funds for the Hospice and we look forward to supporting them with their ideas".
Mighty support from Mansell Construction Ltd
Enthusiastic Management and staff from Mansell in Stourbridge have raised a massive £16,876.97 with their fundraising events during 2008/09. One of the highlights was It's a Knockout which took place in August last year at Stourbridge Rugby Club with staff and associated companies dressed as chickens, centurians and having great fun splashing around in foam and water!Janet Jones, Fundraising Development Manager at the Hospice, said, "To have raised this amount of money is absolutely fantastic and will make a huge difference to our commitment to offer the highest standards of care to our patients. We very much appreciate the support of each and every one of the staff at Mansell and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future".
Jewson Limited offer Corporate support
Two Black Country branches of Jewson, in Rowley Regis and Dudley have come forward to offer their support as part of their national partnership with Help the Hospices.Mat Gibbs, Manager of Rowley Regis branch and Stuart Goodaker, Manager of Dudley branch are committed to raising funds for Mary Stevens Hospice in various ways during the forthcoming year.

Thank you to Mat Gibbs and staff from the Rowley Branch who ran in the Coventry Half-Marathon on Sunday 25 October and to date have raised in excess of £400. Well done!!

Sunshine and flowers at Webbs launch
Webbs of Wychbold Garden Centre launched their chosen Charities of the Year at their new Hagley site on Monday 27 July. Both Mary Stevens Hospice and Kemp Hospice will benefit from fundraising during the coming year by Webbs's employees.Janet Jones, Fundraising Development Manager at Mary Stevens said "We are most grateful to Ed Webb and his staff for their support and very much look forward to working together during the next twelve months".
Webbs have kindly donated 1000 of their own calendars to the Hospice for re-sale. This is a most generous gesture and is very much appreciated and will help to bring in much needed funds.

Westfield Merry Hill to support Mary Stevens
Westfield Merry Hill are pleased to announce their chosen charity for 2009 is to be Mary Stevens Hospice.Kelly Reed, Marketing Manager said, "Our staff are very aware of the wonderful work and care that the Hospice gives to local families and we are committed to doing as much as we can with our own fundraising events and by supporting those organised by the Hospice, to raise as much money as we can".

BRITISH GAS - OLDBURY
The Community Involvement Action Team at British Gas offices based near Oldbury, have chosen Mary Stevens Hospice as their Charity of the Year. The group headed by Annie Pearce recently presented a cheque for £500 to Janet Jones, Fundraising Development Manager at the Hospice, from their recent fundraising events, including throwing wet sponges at Managers in a set of stocks. Other initiatives the staff are keen to implement are collecting unwanted clothes for our charity shops, taking part in our weekly Lottery and selling Hospice merchandise, as well as organising fundraising events.Annie Pearce said, "We are really looking forward to working with Mary Stevens Hospice and supporting the charity in any way we can."
Janet added, "The Action team are really motivated and encourage their colleagues to get involved. We have already had some really positive meetings and we really appreciate all their enthusiasm and commitment. I am sure we will have a super year".

Lloyds TSB Commercial link up with Hospice
The Stourbridge Branch of Lloyds TSB Bank plc, Commercial Banking has announced its intention to support Mary Stevens Hospice during 2009 with fundraising events and employee volunteering initiatives.David Chance, Relationship Director and Steve Peart, Senior Manager said, "Our staff have expressed a wish to support Mary Stevens Hospice as a local charity, as we acknowledge the enormous difference that the high standards of palliative care provided to patients can make to their lives. We are keen to support Hospice events and will also be offering our time as volunteers when needed".

Managers and staff went the 'extra mile' with their hands-on help at the Hospice summer Fete in June. Marquees, gazebos, tables and chairs were speedily moved up to the park grounds in preparation for the big day. More importantly they also came back on the Saturday afternoon to take everything down again - a massive help to the Fundraising Team - thank you so much!
