Community support during July............

Judy O'Gorman from Bromsgrove kindly organised a Coffee Morning and Open house for the second year running in aid of the Hospice. The event was really well supported with a variety of raffle prizes to tempt those who attended. £1,455 was raised this year, with over £1,000 raised in 2009.

Committed supporters of the Hospice - King Edward V1 College, Enrichment Walking for Charity students are once again attempting the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk from the 4 - 6 July.

Ably led by Tutor Jan Syska, the students have been in training for some weeks for the tough mountain walk of around 26 miles with over 5000 feet of ascent over a variety of terrains.

Have a wonderful adventure and look forward to hearing all about the trek on your return.

The Alison Hill School of Dance presents 'Summer Showtime' at Redhill School, Junction Road, Stourbridge on Saturday July 10 at 7pm and Sunday July 11 at 2pm with donations to good causes including Mary Stevens Hospice.

Nathan Smith from Kingswinford is bravely facing his own personal challenge on the 31 July with a Static Line Parachute Jump at an Oxford airfield.
Nathan who works at Merry Hill is busy gaining sponsorship in aid of Mary Stevens Hospice.

Three members of staff from Ladbrokes in Oldhill are embarking on a bike ride from their shop in Oldhill to the Stourport branch and back again. Organised by Craig Knowles-Smith, the guys hope to raise a significant amount for the Hospice. Hope the training is going well and Good Luck.

Community support during June.........

Sunday 6 June was the date of the annual Roger Brookes Memorial Golf Day held at Little Lakes Golf Club, Bewdley.

Many thanks to John Morgan for co-ordinating the event and to all thos golfers and helpers who supported the event.

38 adventurers tackled the 3 Peaks Challenge on the weekend of 18 and 19 June in memory of Tina Quiney who sadly passed away at the Hospice last December, aged 44. Her 10 year old twins, Anna and James were at Snowden to cheer on their father and other family and friends who took up the challenge.

A massive thank you to Mike Quiney for organising the event, those businesses who sponsored the challenge and to everyone who supported in either participating or donating sponsorship.
This is a lovely tribute to Tina - WELL DONE Guys and Gals!

A 'Handbag Party' was held at the home of Jackie Tromans raising £20.62, thank you Jackie.

Ridgeacre House Surgery in Quinton organised a 75th Anniversary party on the 12 May and also launched their support for the coming year for Mary Stevens Hospice. Tea, cakes and a tombola were enjoyed by over 80 people, many who had been visiting the surgery since it opened.
Several members of staff are joining in our Midnight Walk on the 12 June to raise further funds. Brush off those walking boots ladies!

Dave Brown proudly ran the Edinburgh Marathon on the 23 May, wearing our new Hospice running vest, with his Dad and brother. Dave hopes to raise £500 for the Hospice.

Young Aimee Garratt was so motivated to organise fundraising events for the Hospice after her Grandad recently passed away here, that she went back to college at Mons Hill, Dudley and with the support of Tutor Jill Jones, held a 'Taste of Beauty' Day. All the students in the Beauty salon offered treatments for a donation to the Hospice and raised a grand £154.02.
Thank you to all those who supported the event.
Aimee is soon to become a volunteer hairdresser in our Day Unit treating the Thursday patients to a new look.

PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING HITS HALESOWEN IN APRIL
Family Night Out at The Wilson Hall supporting Mary Stevens Hospice

The spectacular, over the top professional wrestling stars of Future Championship Wrestling descend upon The Wilson Hall in Halesowen on Friday April 30th for an evening of bone crunching, body slamming action for the whole family.

As bad and mean as the wrestlers can be, at this particular event they will show their caring side as it will be geared towards raising funds for local charity 'The Mary Stevens Hospice’.

Stourbridge Magic Club held an 'Evening of Magic' at the Kingswinford Conservative Club on Saturday, 6 March raising funds for Mary Stevens Hospice and Action Heart.

An event with a difference was held on Wednesday 10 March with an 'Evening of Trance' with Robert Goodwin, held at Stourbridge Spiritualist Church, in aid of Mary Stevens Hospice. Thank you to all concerned with the event.

Jonathon Dyke and his Mum, committed and enthusiastic supporters of the Hospice held a coffee morning at Central Methodist Church on 20 March raising a fantastic £230. We are told the cakes for sale were scrumptious! Well Done and thank you!

Volunteers and friends of the Hospice pulled out all the stops to showcase their talents at a Cabaret Night on Friday 19 March at Wilson Hall, Colley Gate. The evening, organised by Board member, Geoff Wakeman and volunteer Tom Hill raised a massive £1,121 and a wonderful evening of music, dance and vocals were enjoyed by an audience of over 180 people.
Special thanks to Marlene, our Black Country comedianne and to Rachel Dixon School of Dancers for their performances and to the team of staff and volunteers who helped to make the evening such a success.

Fashion to suit all tastes was showcased at a Fashion Show by Jade Browning, when ladies of Sedgley and Wombourne Inner Wheel organised the evening on the 10 March to raise funds for Mary Stevens Hospice and Breast Cancer Care.
A cheque for £600 will be presented to the Hospice on the 28 April.

He has organised a charity night in aid of the Hospice, at the Arizona Crossing pub in Kingswinford with a band, top magician (who has just won through to the next round of Britain's Got Talent), raffle, fun and games.

Community Events during February .....

Hagley ladies, Ann Mallen and Jayne Morgan organised a Coffee Morning at Ann's home on the 8 February, in memory of a dear friend.
Thank you to all those who so generously supported your event and contributed a massive £1370.55 from the sale of cakes, dresses and a raffle, which has been split between Mary Stevens Hospice and Kemp Hospice.

A Fashion Show at the Swan Pub on Hagley Road, Stourbridge was held on Wednesday 24 February. Liane Hampton, Director of Slice Hair Studio of Wollaston teamed up with Bella Boo of Stourbridge to showcase the latest fashions and hairstyles and raised £1,000 for the Hospice. It was a fantastic night attended by over 200 ladies. Well done Liane and Fran, and thank you to all those who helped with the organisation of the evening.

The Panto Factory is once again generously supporting the Hospice with their annual Pantomime - this year the turn of Robin Hood. The show will be staged at Stourbridge Town Hall from the 25 - 28 February at 7.30pm with additional shows at the weekend at 2.30pm.

Viva Musica support

Image: Viva_musica_logo.jpgViva Musica, a mixed choir based in Dudley are committed supporters of Mary Stevens Hospice and once again will be donating funds raised from their concerts during the coming year.

Their repertoire is vast with melodies from Beethoven to the Beatles as well as many classical favourites. The choir is regularly invited to sing across the West Midlands and has performed in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham with the RAF for a Remembrance Day service and also appeared at Birmingham Town Hall.

Mary Stevens Hospice is very grateful for all the support that Viva Musica have given and continue to give in raising much needed funds.

Truck Pull

Carl Rutter was born at MSH and to commemorate his 40th birthday he decided to take part in a sponsored truck pull at the Mightly Midlander Event at the Dell Staduim on the 19th July 2009. The money raised has been donated to MSH & local child and family bereavement charity 'The Round Oak Robins'

Carl would like to dedicate the truck pull to his Mum Christine who died at the Hospice 10 years ago and to his good friend Gary Gibson. £750 was presented to the Hospice by Carl. Fantastic Carl, many thanks!

Matt completes Snowdon Challenge

Image: new1_005.JPGMatt Wyeth from Hagley was set a number of challenges from his new school to complete through the summer holidays this year, two of the challenges being a physical and fundraising challenge, so Matt combined the two and along with his mom and dad decided to challenge Mount Snowdon and raise money for Mary Stevens Hospice at the same time!

After a incident where Matt fell over whilst playing with friends a week before the challenge which left him in A&E for the day and a stitched up knee, the climb had to be put on hold for a week, but Matt soon thankfully recovered and was fit and well to climb Snowdon just a week after his nasty injury!

It took 2 3/4 hours to climb up and 2 1/2 hours to come back down! Matt raised a brilliant £309!!

Well Done Matt!!

Bewdley Pines Captains Charity Golf Day

The day was a huge success and raised £2324.20.

Princess Inn holds mega Raffle

The Princess in Wollaston has raised a staggering £1,000 from their Christmas raffle.
